Ameesha Patel speaks to AT about her non-filmi beau, her films and family Meet Ameesha Patel and you’ll stop wondering why she gave up her corporate career! Instead, looking at her slender frame, graceful gait and soft-spoken voice and you wonder why the camera doesn’t do justice to her beauty.
SURREAL AND REAL If her porcelain complexion adds to her surreal beauty, then the methodical manner in which she analyses her position in B-town adds realism. “When I entered the industry, I was the odd one out as all my peers came from filmi background. Even though I was going by script and banner, instinct too played a major part in my decision making. And like with so many things in life, some decisions (Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Gadar, Humraaz, Honeymoon Travels) proved winners, while some didn’t go my way. That’s life!” Just before you think she’s getting profound, Ameesha giggles and recalls, “In fact, the Kaho Na…release date was squished between Aamir Khan’s Mela and Shah Rukh’s Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. Everybody was telling me that my film was pitted against the strongest, but after the BO success, I was telling everybody that my film was like the meat between two slices of bread!” Just as she has a wacky way of putting things in perspective, Ameesha also has this stoic manner of dealing with things personal. Quiz her on how she handled her family feud going public and she says, “Which child doesn’t have differences with his/her parents? I did and it became a publicly debated issue. However, our differences are resolved and strangely nobody’s talking about this positive happening! I guess there’s no juice now.”
CHEQUERED ‘N’ LOVING IT Ameesha’s been around for a decade in the industry and her rise to fame has been chequered. Tell her about it and she says, “I wanted to do different roles. Whether it was choosing to play a simple girl or somebody with grey shades or comical, I’ve made informed choices.”
LOOKING AHEAD With Run Bhola Run and Chatur Singh all set to release in 2010, Ameesha’s excited. “Both are laugh riots and I had a blast doing,” she says. Ask her whether less work is linked to her being in a relationship and she says, “Not really. I am enjoying my work and have no plans to marry now. That said, being in love with Kanav is wonderful. He comes from a family like mine, has studied abroad like me and we gel on a lot of things. Plus, he’s not from the film industry and it’s a boon! Imagine talking films 24x7…I can’t!”
