Find out how Bollywood plans to celebrate Diwali.

Bollywood stars are gearing up for Diwali. The Times of India spoke to a few of them to find out what they’ve got planned.

Ayesha Takia, who got married earlier this year, says: “Diwali for me is as big a festival as any other as I come from a mixed religious family. My mum is Anglo-Indian and dad Gujarati. It is a time to spend Diwali with family but no crackers or card-playing sessions for me. This year, I’m hoping for an intimate celebration, especially since it's my first Diwali post marriage.

Salman Khan says: “For me, this Diwali is going to be special for a couple of reasons. Of course our film Main Aur Mrs. Khanna is hitting the screens on Diwali, but more importantly gold and silver coins of ‘Being human’ are going to be available in stores. The proceeds of these will go to my NGO Being Human. The causes we support are noble, and so this Diwali is going to be special for many people in turn. Diwali is about poojas, family and phuljaris. I wish everyone a safe Diwali this year.”

Shah Rukh Khan says: “We celebrate Diwali like Eid. As much as we do namaz at Eid, we burst crackers in Diwali. We must respect every religion.”

Lara Dutta says: “Last year during Diwali, I was shooting with Chichi and Riteish for Do Knot Disturb, so we celebrated Diwali on the sets. But this year is special as my film Blue is releasing. I am looking forward to having loads of fun. This year, I’ll be celebrating it with my sister and nephew in Mumbai.”

Ranbir Kapoor says: “Let me tell you that my dadi cooks the most delicious Diwali sweets, so now you know why I look forward to the festival. No crackers for me, but yes, a Pooja and lots of sweets is what Diwali is all about. It's a family affair that becomes even more special when Riddhima comes down."

Ameesha Patel says: “"I have a sweet tooth, so for me Diwali means sweet and more sweets. I'll gorge on food this Diwali and then workout really hard. But no compromising during this Festival of Lights."
