Amisha Patel to contest from Rajkot on NCP ticket

Ahmedabad Bollywood actor Amisha Patel will contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls from Rajkot on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket, state party president Jayant Patel has said.

He said: “The actor has confirmed that she will be our candidate from Rajkot. She is abroad at present, but will head to Rajkot as soon as she comes back. We are also in talks with a few cricketers to campaign for her.”

This will be the political debut for Amisha, who tarted her career as the female lead in the Bollywood blockbuster Kaho Naa Pyar Hai in 2000.

The granddaughter of famous lawyer-politician Barrister Rajni Patel, who was the Congress Pradesh Committee President of Bombay, Amisha was born on June 9, 1976.

She studied at the Cathedral and John Connon High School in Bombay (now Mumbai) before heading overseas to study economics at Tufts University in Medfort, Massachusetts.

The economics gold medallist joined Satyadev Dubey's theatre group and acted in plays upon returning to India, before making her debut as an actor.
