He's dressing the divas both on screen and off it. Ensembles apart, you can now sling on his bags, spray on his perfume, spread his linen...and come September he'll be at London Fashion Week for the first time. Yes, Rocky S is hitting new highs This isn’t his first time, having visited Chandigarh before as part of a fashion tour. In between then and now designer Rocky S who has been styling clothes for the likes of Katrina Kaif, Shilpa Shetty and Bipasha onscreen, sent in his pret line through the designer one-stop store Samsaara. How did it do? “I am overwhelmed by the response. In fact I have realised that Punjab is an important market for me and I am learning more about it,” admitted the designer dressed in all-black, as always. In town for dual events - one night sipping wine and cheese with the ladies at Samsaara to the other night showcasing his signature line in black for the Blender’s Pride Party Tour. What’s with the colour? “For me it’s evergreen. It’s chic, classic and will never be out of style,” the designer dimpled back as we noticed an entire collection in midnight black on the racks. Surprisingly, his styling for Bollywood has been anything but that one colour. The latest being Katrina’s flirty yet elegant ensembles for ‘Singh is Kinng’. “I had fun doing them too,” says Rocky who has his hands full with back-to-back Bollywood releases. “I am doing Katrina again in ‘Yuvraj’, there’s another Yashraj production that stars John, Bipasha and Katrina plus I am styling Bipasha’s look in ‘Punk’,” the designer lists his assignments out. But the piece de resistance for the year is his showing at the London Fashion Week this September. “It’s my first time and I am really looking forward to it,” he remarks. And what’s his collection all about, we can’t help but get inquisitive. “It’s a universal line and I am not pushing the India factor too much since I am looking to sell well in Europe too,” tells Rocky who’s playing up the hippie-chic look. “One that’s flirty yet fun,” he adds.
If that wasn’t enough Rocky has taken on more on his plate. Apart from his pret and couture lines, the designer is stitching up Rocky S for kids (through Giny and Jony) and doing a spread with his home furnishing collection apart from his range of bags retailed out of 80 stores in the country. “I have also launched my own line of fragrances for men and women,” says Rocky who spent over a year sniffing out the best with a French company. “It’s a night perfume and I want to expand that range but for now, it’s good,” laughs the designer who seems to want more with life. “I like working on challenges. It could be anything creative and the fact that I have Marwari genes help me in doing good business too.” Yes, from designing for the fashion frat to rolling out pret lines for the middle class, Rocky S is thinking smart. Silent MaidenThe third to complete the trio hosting the Blender’s Pride Party Tour 2008 in the city, actor Amisha Patel chose to play the silent game, at least at the press conference. Arriving in a sunny yellow that did little to uplift her mood, the actor balked at the idea of a question and answer session and just stared back at the photographers through dark sunglasses. Going by the clock, she left under five minutes, the precise time she had signalled to someone in her entourage. With the two designers happy to talk, she wasn’t sorely missed either.
