It would be foolish to underestimate a child’s intelligence, especially in the 21st century where parents find it hard to match the wit of their children. Amidst the tough times of Bollywood, Yash Raj Banners have trusted Kunal Kohli, director of hits like Fanaa and Hum Tum to fool the children with their latest flick – Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.

The story of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic is extremely predictable. Any grandmother would identify the storyline as one of the bedtime stories narrated by them to the small kids. It is this defect that will not go well with the adults, especially not accounting the age group of 15-30 can cause good amount of harm for the film’s overall business.

Saif Ali Khan plays the character of Ranbeer Talwar, one of the top entrepreneurs in the country. He has lost everyone that he ever loved. One day, he faces the wrath of taking care of four orphans who simply hate him.

Ranbeer isn’t lucky enough to get things right in his first clash with the four children, who are brooding to settle their scores. All of them get together to make a miserable family.

God (Rishi Kapoor) hears the prayers of the four buds and sends his sweetest and most mischievous angel Geeta (Rani Mukherjee) to their rescue. Geeta finds herself in Ranbeer’s house as a new caretaker. Things come under control instantly as Geeta spreads her positivity everywhere.

First and foremost, is back-biting permitted in heaven? That’s something unacceptable as angels are shown backbiting each other. What is it with the Punjabi accent of Rani Mukherjee? Bollywood is becoming more of a slave to this tried and tested Punjabi accent, which is annoying in TPTM.

The film has incorporated special effects, but it is not overdosed. The director had used these in his previous film Hum Tum too and he utilizes the technology well to his favour yet again.

The editing of TPTM is done by Amitabh Shukla, who had won many awards for his job in Chak De India. However, his work in this film is surely going to get unnoticed. Cinematography is good. Styling and designing of Rani Mukherjee’s character is nothing short of awful.

The script is too simple to even excite a kid, and that’s where the fault lies. Director Kunal Kohli’s first fault lies in casting his actors. Rani has lost most of her charm, Saif who seems to have lost interest in the film. The best part of the film is the annoying yet acceptable character played by Ameesha Patel.

Her cleavage and curves will take the ‘Gadar’ lovers by surprise. She stands out in the Lazy Lamhe track which brightens up a few faces watching the film.

Musicwise, the soundtrack of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic has already been written off in the music review of Radiosargam. Except for Lazy Lamhe, no other song deserves a mention.

Actingwise, Saif Ali Khan is a misfit for this role. Rani Mukherjee tries hard to put in all her energies in this film but her performance looks stale. Ameesha Patel is ravishing. The four kids are cute and are the true stars of the film. Rishi Kapoor as God looks convincing and adorable.

Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic is an average fair at the box-office window. The opening has taken a thrashing in all zones and the trade reports aren’t exciting so far. Overall, an attempt has been made to revolve a fairytale of love and magic, and how God makes his presence felt in the lives of sad hearts.
