Ameesha Patel on the appreciation that ‘Honeymoon Travels…’ has won her and a newfound sense of contentment

‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd’ has won you much appreciation.
I’m extremely happy. The feedback has been positive. I’ve been told that I look fresh in the film. People have loved my bubbly character and my comic timing. To be noticed in an ensemble cast of talented actors including Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Kay Kay Menon and Sandhya Mridul was a challenge.

Were you hesitant to do the film initially?
I fell in love with my character instantly. It was an unconventional role. I could identify with the character. She loves pink, which is my favourite colour too. She is a romantic freak just the way I am. I didn’t have to act for a single day. I enjoyed being myself in front of the camera.

Are you enjoying working in Priyadarshan’s ‘Chandramukhi’?
This is the first time I’m working with Priyan. He turns a simple scene into a moment of great comedy.

He does not know Hindi and yet he is so marvellous. The shooting has been gruelling. I get up at three or four am to be ready on time.

The locations are generally over an hour away from the hotel. By the time I get back I’m ready to hit the bed. Often I’ve skipped dinner because I wanted to spend the extra 20 minutes sleeping rather than eating. But I’m not complaining. I’m enjoying every moment of my work in Jaipur.

Have you become selective?
When I started out I didn’t know better. For five years I didn’t take a break. I had no other life besides my work.

There came a point when my friends wanted to disown me. I’ve realised that it is best to do one film at a time, work on the look and the character, take a break and recoup before starting another. I want to play different characters.

What are you looking forward to?
The year started on a good note. I won the Young Achiever’s award for my contribution to cinema. Now ‘Honeymoon…’ has received good reports. I’m enjoying working with Priyan. I’m happy professionally and personally. I’m at peace with myself.
