 Thousands of children participated in a marathon in aridabad city on Sunday to create awareness about inherited blood disorder Thalassemia. Thalassemia is a disease, which prevents sufferers from producing the requisite hemoglobin. It is for this reason that they require frequent transfusions to maintain their haemoglobin level.  Amisha Patel is working with an NGO called PlanetRead. It helps people in villages to learn reading through film songs. Professor Scott Norton from Tuffs University in Boston (where she graduated from) approached her with the concept and she liked it. Patel has shot a promotional documentary for them to get more people involved. She says that she is more like an ambassador for the NGO. |
